Are Small Businesses Innovative?

Recently I read an article about the state of small business innovation, and I was shocked to read that many studies don?t find small business owners innovative, rather as people just continually reinventing the wheel. Maybe they feel small business owners aren?t innovative is because the people doing studies are academics, and not in small businesses. Or maybe it?s because small business owners are so busy trying to make their businesses more profitable that they don?t take time to share their innovative ideas with the world. Or maybe it?s because we don?t know what innovation is.

innovation crossword Small Businesses Cant Innovate

My definition of ?innovation: Taking something you already have and finding a way to do it better. Anyone can innovate a process or a system and make it better. I can do that. And so can you.

Invention is a much tougher thing to do, and I do think this requires more time than a small business owner typically has, though there are certainly exceptions.

YOUR OPINION PLEASE:

I?d love to know what your take is on this. Is the?state of small business innovation?pathetic and void of any real innovation? Are they just too busy to blog, do research, publish papers and books on how they innovate? Or do we just not know what innovation is?
